Chaosgroup Vray for Maya 2.0 Beta

Today i've installed Vray 2.0 beta. Installation was easy.
The texture + shading in viewport works fine in Harware texturing.
In default quality render like mental ray (it was not enable in vray 1.5).
I've tested RT, so i've tryed the caustics and the texture placement.
So it's a base for comparaison.

Clean render, i've not tweak to have an accurate one, just a test. Very Fast, nice release.

100 % of CPU threads, fast but caustics are not good, especialy in the shadows area.
But for a non-caustic shader, it's a very good thing. We can rotate, an IPR of the future!

I've pushed a little more and test the texturing with RT.

OOPS THE TEXTURE TILING



As you can see the CPU RT is very very nice, fast and accurate. GPU RT seems to be not ready for a serious use. It's not fast, not accurate with texturing.
We can't say that it's my video card, i've got a Quadro 6000 with last Nvidia release. Maybe a think to improve for the final 2.0.
My opinion is that Vray 2.0 for Maya is very close of the Max version. I'm not a pro user of Vray because of Mental, but i'm interesting for using it. It's very fast compare to Mental, a lots of improvement. Vray 2.0 is a very nice release, not so expensive, very clean results.

Here it is, vray 2.0 for Maya!
The best news : Vray RT for both CPU and GPU. It is the big "missing" in Maya even with Mental ray and the missing Iray. My quadro 6000 will like it ;)
It seems that vray 2.0 is for the film and VFX industry like Maya.
Now the Beta testing program is begining for these who have already a 1.5 license as well as thеse who pre-order V-Ray 2.0 for Maya.

As you can see the release should be ready for market in the end of April.
There are two new shader: one car paint who missed from the previous 1.5 and a toon shader.
Hi hope that we could now deal with texture placement without use a Maya shader for test.
I try to be a Beta tester so i will post news soon. Install seems to be not so easy.

Vous connaissez le photo-réalisme?
Matt et moi avons fait une partie de nos études ensemble, le moins que l'on puisse dire c'est qu'il a toujours été très bon dans tout ce qu'il touchait.
Aujourd'hui son blog : http://www.mattguetta.com/index.php/ est au top. Acteur reconnu dans l'archi, il a su s'imposer avec Vray. Il n'en reste pas moins que sa carrière est devant lui, tant il a à apporter en prod.
Je vous conseille de voir son blog, de surveiller vos magazines préférés dans lesquels il fait souvent des apparitions.

A little bit of hardware and tweak soft

Hi,
Hyperthreading or not?
I was looking for info about Mental ray licences with maya and i ask to myself if MentalR was running faster or not with HT enable.
So i've rendered the exact same scene in maya 2011 64 bits.

  • Without HT:

I've told MentalR to use my 2 xeons: 6 threads by Xeon so 12 threads in total.



  • With HT:

Now with HT we have 24 threads, and MentalR use all the threads:





Finaly, after have read all the things possible it seems that Mr take advantage of HT
